Impossible You Say?

A different sort of post for today. Last evening once I was able to escape the confines of the Victory Vault I decided to visit my local Vintage Stock to see if I couldn't pick up a few titles to review for the Retroist site. I picked up a handful of Atari 2600 titles as well as a few choice selections from the NES section.
Imagine my surprise when I came upon this Mission Impossible cart from the video store I used to work at in my youth and not only that but it still had the stickers with my handwriting on it. What are the odds that after 20 years whomever had owned this game wouldn't have removed the stickers?

Numb Thumb Hall Of Fame.

Make sure to click the above pictures to make them readable!
Many of you loyal readers have seen my countless posts where I've talked about my longing for the famed and much coveted Activision patches that were offered back in the day for reaching a certain set score, taking a photo of it, and sending it in to await the arrival of said prestigious patch.

I was not aware however that another great game company of the time, Imagic, had their own patch award...not to mention the chance to win t-shirts and jackets. I wish I had because from the scanned magazine page provided by Atari Age above, from the Numb Thumb News back in 1983 I believe I would have been able to secure a Dragonfire patch!

Make sure to check out that last article where Bob Smith is interviewed, he also was the programmer on one of my fave Atari games, Riddle of the Sphinx. Which was way ahead of its time! I wish there was a vast archive for interviews with these programmers of the golden age of video games because I know I cannot be the only gamer who longs for more information on what it was like back in the game making business!

Still Saturday Supercade...Cybertron Edition!

It should probably comes as no surprise that I have had such a blast playing Transformers: War for Cyberton on the Xbox 360. Nor should it surprise anyone that I am a huge Transformers fan that would pay upwards of 100 bucks to have this custome made Omega Supreme sitting on my mantle.

Some More Saturday Supercade!

In my youth I would have killed a Grue single-handedly to obtain one of these shirts and that goes true for today as well. You do not even have to place an order with FrobozzCo International anymore to purchase your own. Just head over to Cafepress.com to make your purchase...of course I'm not sure how many Zorkmids you would need to do so...better use a debit/credit card to be sure.

Saturday Supercade!

This pic is my way of thanking Richard for the heads up earlier this week that my going on three day vacation post had not actually posted. So gaze, Richard, gaze on the mighty Sonic the Hedgehog in all his illuminating glory! If you feel so inclined you can pick up this beauty for I believe a mere $169.00...though I have no idea what the currency exchange is for rings to dollars.

Thanks to Kotaku for the above pic!

Friday Flyers.

We are heading all the way back to 1974 for this Friday Flyers, thanks as always to the Arcade Flyer Archive.

Challenge was released by the Micro manufacturer in another form, a table top, that was round with a glass panel over the monitor. It is basically a clone of pong or as the genre is entitled Ball and Paddle.

I couldn't find anything on Ramtex's Baseball unfortunately but the monitor graphics pictured in the flyer looks pretty good for 1974!

Formula K was a clone of Atari's Gran Trak 10 with the addition of a lap time, a diode that glowed counting the lap times. I like how the flyer proudly advertises the oil spill on the track.

I believe I've played the Formula K game at a local fair in my youth, just a tent with a few arcade games, and various types of test your strength and love meter games. This is the same tent where I played for the only time the Death Race game...surprised with the media attention on that particular game that the fair didn't have to run for their lives from a mob with pitchforks and torches.

By Grungni's Axe!

A very big thank you to Richard for sending me a quick query as to why the site hadn't been updated. On Tuesday I had written out a quick little announcement that some close friends of mine had an alarming problem with a greenskin outbreak so I was off until Friday while I lent them my hammer.

It would seem the post never went up. Thanks again to Richard for the heads up, for that I'll post something Sonic related comes Saturday Supercade!
