It Must Be Thursday...New Year's Eve Blowout Finished!

I along with the many minion that slave away daily at the Victory Pellet Vault wish Kyle and Ashley a wonderful life together. I only wish I could get my hands on one of those cufflink cartridges.

Happy New Year everyone!

It Must Be Thursday...New Year's Eve Blowout continued!

Well, perhaps I was wrong. Mayhap the L.D.A. need only a fan crazy enough to dress like this to bring in the hipsters to their melodic concerts?

It Must be Thursday...New Year's Eve Blow Out!

This...this is what those hard rockin' lads over at the Lightbulb Detective Agency need to bring in the kids these days!

Box art Wednesday.

Wow. 450th post.
Of course in the case of all the Victory Pellet postings it's generally a matter of quantity over quality.
Feel free to clicks the pics and read up on some of the classic text adventure games, the best computer entertainment from back in the day when having your system set up to a black and white television didn't actually hurt the gameplay.

Ice-T is going to bust a cap in your @$$!

When I first heard that Ice-T was one of the hundreds of thousands that stood in line for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2...I just figured he was in the wrong line, maybe he thought it was an open casting call for CSI: Miami, I thought perhaps he was just wanting a change of scenery.

However...since he plunked down the money for the Collector's Edition of COD:MW2 which includes real night vision goggles...I felt that maybe he was indeed a fan of the game. In fact he was quoted from the picture above, "I'm rollin', comin' through buildings, you gonna die!"

The kind folks over at Kotaku have secured not only his gamer tag, Lord 187X, but his really freaking hard to get achievements.

The Show achivement
10 kills/No deaths

Supernatural achievement
Kill/Death ration over 10

Immortal achievement
Highest kill/death ratio

No word on if he plays online with Gary Busey, Rutger Hauer, and Charles S. Dutton. Though from the safety of the Victory Pellet vault...I can only dream that this happens.

Thanks to Kotaku for the pics!

Food Fight!

In 1983, Atari released one of my favorite arcade games, Food Fight. Doing some research, which in this case was Wikipedia, I found out that the player takes on the role of Charley Chuck...a boy who is just trying to eat an ice cream cone in peace but has to contend with four chefs whose main goal is to tackle the boy and or pelt him mercilessly with various piles of food. That bit of Wiki searching has let me know that the chefs have names as well. Oscar, Angelo, Jacques, and Zorba.

Food Fight is one of those games that I would easily spend a buck on back in the olden days and my faulty memory tells me it was usually in a lower corner of Showbiz Pizza, next to Jungle Hunt, Yie Ar Kung-Fu, as well as Wizard of Wor.

The Wiki says that some of the Food Fight machines had track balls installed in the cabinets but I can't see how that would have worked very well with controlling Charley and throwing food at the chefs. The cabinet I played definitely had a controller on it.

One of the bits that Wiki was able to confirm for me was that every once in a while, generally when you pulled off a daring escape or just pelted the Chefs to the point of saturation. The game would do a quick instant replay.

As an added bonus feature to this post...enjoy some Starcade featuring Food Fight. Oh, if you take a moment to click the top pic, to the right of the Food Fight cabinet is what looks to be a Road Runner arcade game.

Saturday Supercade

Well, the Victory Pellet vault is trashed, you can't wade through these hewed corridors of Onyx without slipping on Christmas wrapping. However, though Santa didn't perhaps bring us the glittering things we wished for...it was an enjoyable holiday none the less.

Four things about the pictures posted above:
1) Topo. Remember the Topo robot?
2) I bought Star Raiders with my Father during a snow storm.
3) Is that not just an awesome Christmas tree? I dig the Simon Belmont at the bottom as well as Mega-Man with the Santa hat.

It must be Christmas Eve still continued.

Wow...if you can watch more than a few minutes of this...you deserve many, many gifts this Holiday Season!

It must be Christmas Eve continued.

What better way to celebrate the Holidays than watching Santa cry?

It must be Christmas Eve.

It's almost time for the big guy in red to come down the Victory Pellet vault access hatch and hopefully deliver up a few goodies. We here at the vault, Dusty, Richard, Sharry, and myself wish all of you a very, very happy holidays.

If you are not filled with the Christmas spirit yet, I personally shall do my best to wrap it up in a bow and give it to you. Otherwise you are going to look like Santa Claus up above, staring at an unfeeling Pac-Man as a crystallized tear appears on your cheek.

Universal Monster Legacy break.

Sure it has nothing to do with video games but it's awesome to see the Gill Man pick up a guy and just hurl him to the ground below!

Spock Christmas.

Not that I wasn't expecting Nimoy to lend his vocal talents to the upcoming MMO but it's nice to hear him explaining some things we can expect.

Box Art Wednesday.

The king of shelf-warmers back in my day as a video clerk, long before I came to internet power and built the Victory Pellet vault in the Adirondack mountains. However my friend, John/Brian, and I played a ton of the first Adventure Island game on the NES.

We didn't care for the second one so much and when the third one came out I just gave it a passing play. Of course I can now download them all for five dollars to my Wii...but I won't. Yet.

Tetris mocks me even during Christmas!

Old cold and unfeeling Tetris, how you mock my sobs of game competition's past. Is this the games to come? Spare me this sight, Tetris, and I shall carry the warmth of your cascading shapes in my heart 365 days a year!

Super Mario Bros. now with jazz hands!

As I sit here in the Victory Pellet vault I can only look upon C.K. Edwards and wish I had even a smidgen of that talent. Apparently C.K. is on Broadway in Billy Elliot, let us hope that for Christmas he gets a deal for a fitness game on the Nintendo Wii.

Update: Apparently at the 0.49 mark on the vid you can hear the cameraman's change fall off his desk from the hoofing of C.K. Edwards.

Some more Saturday Supercade.

This picture might make some take notice. It has Pengo in it. This was a sticker made for a MAME cabinet. Very nice.

Still some Saturday Supercade.

It seems there is a real demand for Burger Time artwork on the Internet, the main requisite is that it has to be pretty disturbing. The egg is just nightmarish.

Still Saturday Supercade.

Pac-Man toys and products are far easier to find than any other 80's game. Except maybe Mappy...or Dig-Dug.

Saturday Supercade.

While better suited for Halloween than Christmas...this is a pic of kids wearing Pac-Man costumes which means it is full of win. However, as I later have learned, these children with their beloved video-game inspired champion proudly on their chests and face are...lawbreakers!

This Pac-Man get up was not an officially sanctioned product. Though that didn't stop Wal-Mart from carrying it back in the day.

Friday Flyers.

Yeah, nothing makes me want to purchase an arcade game like a grimacing and sweaty lumberjack. However, Timber is actually a pretty fun game, though I've only ever been able to play it on MAME. I dig that 'wood' arcade cabinet for it.

It Must be Thursday.

What more can you say?
Except that this young woman likes Samus enough that she built this suit herself...something that I have to applaud to be sure...however the gashes on the costume with the dripping blood really makes it creepy.

Box Art Wednesday.

It's worth mentioning that the Barbarian cover art came under a pretty harsh attack due to the scantily clad 'warrior princess' on the cover and the free poster that came with it. Of course this was the 80's and I don't think mothers were ready to see this poster hanging in their kids rooms.

Ready to defend Iacon?

A big thanks to Seiberton.com for scanning the images of the latest Game Informer, I received my copy yesterday and was wondering how I was going to share the awesome images above with you readers. Need to get a good scanner I suppose.

Like the trailer a few days ago I am digging what I am seeing with this production art. The Game Informer crew had a chance to play some levels of the game and generally have some very nice things to say about it.

A couple of things of geeky interest, there will be two story lines, one for Autobots and the Decepticons naturally but to get the real story one must play the Decepticons first so as you understand their rise to power. In the article they mention that the final boss for the Decepticons is none other than Omega Supreme. Which begins the Autobots storyline with Optimus, Ratchet, and Bumblebee trying desperately to defend the city of Iacon from a Decepticon attack.

It looks like we shall be able to choose a pretty robust selection of Transformers from each side but I smiled when I read about Thundercracker and Ironhide especially. As usual click the pics above to...ahem...transform so you might enjoy the artwork.

Some late news from 1984!

Just happened to visit the 1984 site and was pleased to discover this bit of info:

"World Record Set At 1984!
Written by Lincoln Whisler
Tuesday, 20 October 2009
On September 9th, 2009 Mark Kiehl stepped into history. Since 1982 at the age of 11 Mark has been playing Donkey Kong Junior. As a teen ager he had plenty of opportunity to play and work on his skills and was able to push his score up around 250,000. But after his local arcade sent the Donkey Kong Junior machine away it was a rare opportunity for him to be able to play the game again after that. Years later Mark began playing again using MAME on his home computer to simulate his favorite game. And, after learning about 1984 Aracade he started to visit us in person to play, practice and begin a string of record setting attempts. Now we are proud to announce that Mark Kiehl is the Official World Record holder of the highest score ever set on on Donkey Kong Junior. His score of 1,147,800 goes into the record books of Twin Galaxies Arcade (the official score keeper for world records). The score he beats was just set earlier this year by Steve Wiebe who became famous for his back and fourth battle for the world record for Donkey Kong in the film "Fist Full Of Quarters". The high score set by Billy Mitchell in 1983 help up through 2008 when it was eclipsed by Ike Hall. The owners at 1984 are very proud to have a world record set at our location, but we are very happy that it was Mark that did it."

The Ghosts wise up.

Found this little strip over the weekend and thought it cute, a stirring round of applause to Duelinganalogs.com for this offering.

It only hurts when I laugh.

While the announcement that there was going to be a sequel to the insanely awesome Batman: Arkham Asylum game wouldn't have shocked me, it did sell over 2 million copies in it's first two weeks of release, the sequel being announced a mere 4 months after it's debut did.

Rumor is that this outing for next year will not take place in Arkham but as seen in the vid above, on the streets of Gotham itself. As long as they keep fueling my geek needs like including audio 'news' commentary by Vic Sage and Jack Ryder while you are playing...I'll be a happy camper.

Sunday Super Post for Tron: Evolution

I am wondering a bit now about the story for Tron: Legacy, after seeing that teaser trailer for the film, perhaps Flynn is a captive now in his own 'world', because if you go back and watch it he doesn't look to pleased to see the blue program getting aced.

Still Saturday Supercade.

Some more Saturday Supercade.

Tis the season!

Saturday Supercade.

Imagine my surprise when doing some Christmas shopping at my local mall when I saw this hanging in the window of Hot Topic. It glows in the dark. This is truly an odd world we inhabit.

This one took me by surprise...it's going to be a weird year in 2010.
