Saturday Supercade!

Make sure to click on the pics to Embiggen!

The first two pics come to us by way of the talented mind of Scott Campbell, make sure to check out all his great artwork over at scott-c.blogspot.com because how can you not enjoy an illustration of Law & Order that has Dog the bounty hunter and Bossk on trial?

Jen Rarey gives us his BurgerTime creation for the I am 8-Bit artshow by way of IGN.com.

Finally we have an incredible group of video game characters by way of the Wii...not sure what that is all about, to be honest I found it in a search on Google.

Very, very busy here at the Victory Pellet Vault. Almost too busy to play Starcraft II...almost. Have a great weekend and I'll see you kind readers on Monday!

Friday Flyers.

Click the flyer pics to make 1984 size!
I was and still am more of a fan of arcade games than pinball but I certainly recognize their rightful places in the arcades of my youth. The three featured Pinball machines shown above show that the companies spent just as much as their pixelated playing brother machines when it came down to creating an eye-catching flyer for selling their products.
Though I wonder what Attila the Hun would have thought if someone travelled back in time and explained his 'likeness' was on a game.
Thanks as always to the Arcade Flyer Archive for the above pics.

Wednesday Box Art.

Jackie Chan. Scrooge McDuck. The Cobra Triangle. What do all of these NES titles have in common you might ask? Back in my youth these titles were readily available to find on the rental shelves. They were what I like to call shelf warmers.

To be fair, Cobra Triangle, was actually popular at the video store that I was working at. It was a racing game of sorts that had you picking up stranded swimmers and blowing away most things that crossed your watery path. The popularity for the title wore off pretty quick though and soon it was rentable for 7 days for a mere couple of bucks. Which didn't happen too often.

Jackie Chan:Action Kung-Fu came in as a shelf warmer and stayed as a shelf warmer. I'll let the all powerful Wiki give the description of the story: "The plot revolves around Jackie Chan with his sister Josephine being supreme kung fu champs, guarding the country against evil until the Prince of Sorcerers, a green-skinned villain with magical powers attacks Jackie and kidnaps his sister. Jackie embarks on an adventure to stop the Prince of Sorcerers and his minions and save his sister." Hey, at least this title received a TurboGrafx-16 port.

DuckTales 2 was a nice little platformer which has Scrooge McDuck searching for the seven pieces of the treasure map of Fergus McDuck, in far flung locations of the world. While the NES version didn't seem to find its audience, because they had moved on perhaps to the SNES and Genesis systems, the Gameboy title of the same name sold over a million units thereby becoming a Player's Choice selection.

"Raynor Here."

Last night as I stood shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Blizzard devotees at the midnight release of StarCraft II a couple of things occurred to me.
1) I was the only body in the room to be wearing a dress shirt and tie.
2) I wasn't the oldest person in line by a long shot.
3) From the bits of conversations I overheard, the workforce in my neck of the woods was going to be receiving a lot of calls from people suffering a 24 hour bug.
4) More than 25 people should not side with the Zerg.
Let me explain that last bit real quick. When I entered the store, running a little late because for some reason my body demands I sleep, I was asked by the store manager which faction I would choose. My sleep addled brain tried desperately to make sense of this question. The manager kindly explained I needed to choose a faction to stand in line with...so in less than a second I answered that I would side with the Terrans.
I was kindly directed to the long line of fellow Terrans and immediately began to eye the even longer line of Zerg fans with some bit of trepidation...not so much the Protoss followers as there were only two. The manager pulled out a hat that was filled with raffle-like tickets and declared that the Terran line would be the first to receive their copies of Starcraft II. Cool!

My wife was kind enough to pre-purchase the collector's edition of Starcraft II, some of the items I have scanned and posted above. Blizzard really makes me feel that I spent...I mean my wife spent her money well. Unlike say a collector's edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum? Yeah, I'm looking at you Rocksteady and Eidos, take a page from Blizzard when it comes to the swag inside the box.
Now bear in mind that I've totally imbibed of the Kool-Aid that is Blizzard. But when I opened the box I was greeted with the soundtrack to the game, a metal USB drive that resembles Jim Raynor's dogtag (Let me say that again. It is metal.), a hardcover art book for the game, the behind the scenes DVD, and a Simon Furman comic that introduces a new mercenary group to the Starcraft universe, the War Pigs. Oh...I also found the game itself.
So how is the game? Simply described? Awesome.

Batman Vs Q*Bert!

A couple of weeks ago I was able to post some DeviantArt that showed the cross-over of Batman and Donkey Kong in a false comic cover, now we have as seen above the beautiful illustrations of Christoper Tupa, showing what would happen if Batman and Q*Bert crossed paths.

For more of Christopher's artwork (Because you haven't lived until you've seen a zombie Madball version of Teddy Ruxpin!) please head over to his official site at http://www.ctupa.com/

Chris has been a loyal reader of my blog for a while and I must say that for anyone that loves the 80's and more importantly has a whimsical heart will feel right at home as they look over Chris's artwork. He has quite a bit of his work for sell and I'm going to have to wrestle anyone who tries to buy the above Batman vs Q*Bert artwork from under me.

Lex Luthor Messes Up Again!

This is a pretty epic intro to the upcoming D.C. Universe Online game that is going to be on the PC and Playstation 3 come November 2nd. Pretty dark and gruesome too. On that first reveal you can just make out Green Arrow in the rubble and at first I thought that was Elasti-Girl from the Doom Patrol who comes crashing to the ground but after re-watching it I see that something green hits her in the noggin, so it's Giganta, especially since Green Lantern swoops down just a moment after.

I'm pretty excited to see what this MMO has in store for us players.

Thanks to Kotaku for the heads up on the video above!

Saturday Supercade Is Closed!

Well, I couldn't end this weekend's Saturday Supercade without at least one Tron item being included! Head over to Zazzle.com to pick up this sweet lightcycle t-shirt.

Everyone be safe and have a great weekend!

Some More Saturday Supercade!

Look we all need some new tennis shoes sometimes...I just happen to need coverings for my feet that have Pac-Man ghosts on them.

Still Saturday Supercade!

Now that is a cake that I can only hope to get for my next birthday.
A big thanks to Scooter Kitty's blog where I believe this picture was taken at an all 1980's party. We here at the Victory Pellet Vault salute you!

Now how is that for a great birthday cake?

Friday Flyers...Tron Edition.

Kevin Flynn: Look, just so I can tell my friends what this dream is about, okay, where am I?
Ram: You're a... guest of the Master Control Program.
Kevin Flynn: Oh, great.
Ram: They're going to make you play video games.
Kevin Flynn: No sweat. I play video games better than anybody.

Well, yesterday was a pretty great day for all of us Tron fans. The Flynn Lives countdown reached zero and unlocked a new puzzle, a new achievement to crow about once it was solved, and then we had the new trailer to scour for information frame by frame.

Speaking of the trailer from yesterday's post, make sure to check out the 17 second mark for a confirmation of how loyal Joseph Kosinski is being to the first movie. Just in case you can't watch it, I'll tell you, it is Flynn's handheld game that he was playing while explaining to Alan and Lora what he was doing hacking into the Encom mainframe. When Sam is in the secret room at Flynn's we see a notebook drawing/sketch of the Tron arcade game. Also Sam after being digitized says almost the exact same thing his father did when he arrived in the digital world.

So about today's post. I've never had the fortune to play a sit-down version of Discs of Tron, when I was a young man our local University had an upright cabinet in the community hall that I would constantly plug quarters into while waiting for a good friend to get off of work. I really love Discs of Tron but I still hold the original Tron game in higher esteem.

It Must Be Thursday...Countdown Pays Off!

How about the new Tron: Legacy trailer?

It Must Be Thursday...Encom Edition!

With just two mintues to go on the countdown I received these wonderful gifts from Encom through the mail, a set of all 7 Encom postcards advertising their wonderful games. These are going on one of the walls of the Victory Pellet Vault, just need to find a way to frame them or something.
The countdown by the way just completed a few minutes ago...Twitter advises to "Keep your fingers on the digital pulse - stay connected to this data stream throughout the day. Instructions to come."
So...it looks like I'll be glued to this chair for the day! Click on the pics above of course so that you can actually read what it says about the games.

Flynn's Arcade Tokens!

Okay. Normally this is Box Art Wednesday. But as for some reason I can barely stay awake...probably something to do with the oppressive humidity or it might very well be that my Radium Chimps have begun to poison my tea in the morning I've decided to make it a simpler post.

What you see in the picture above is from Flynn Lives, these are the tokens that will most probably be handed out as swag at the San Diego Comic-Con starting...tonight. So, dear readers, this is where I go down on one knee with hat in hand and make a plea to you, if you happen to be attending the Comic-Con and are able to get photos, a handful of coins, posters, t-shirts, and are willing to share then please contact me and we can talk about a fair price.

Of course if you are at Comic-Con and happen to receive one of the excellent Walking Dead posters by the master, Drew Struzan, then please grab me one of those as well, I will give you a good price for it.

Enough of the begging. Thank you for your patience in this small matter.

"They haven't built a circuit that could hold you!"

"Games? You want games? I'll give you games. I'll..."
I've never been subject to digitization but I believe that with how my brain felt last night after completing the 32 levels of Circuit Cycles I may have a better understanding of what it must feel like.

Flynn Lives has started up their excellent viral marketing diversions once again, just in time for the San Diego Comic-Con, and after completing the fun but mentally grueling game I was led to a new site: www.flynnlives.com/identityraid/

Which now tells us as I type this that we have 1 day, 18 hours, and 37 minutes until...something...probably the new Tron: Legacy trailer but the countdown ends exactly at the same time as the Comic-Con panel begins so let's hope they do something incredible and let we fans that are unable to attend see what is going down.

If you feel the need to give Circuit Cycles a go for yourself then head over to: http://encomgames.jp/circuitcycles/

If you get a second make sure to head over to the Retroist site and take a look at all of the game reviews posted there along with a ton of other great retro related goodness, join the forums and join the fun.

Super Hero Saturday Supercade!

If you took this photo I congratulate you on being on the absolutely safest subway car ride in existence. Assuming of course that the Mole Man doesn't attack the car to get to the Thing and the Torch, or the Green Goblin doesn't bomb the whole thing in an attempt to kill Spider-Man, or the Mandarin and the Abomination don't team up to lay low Iron Man and the Hulk.

Actually...you better get out on the next stop. Have a great weekend everyone and see you on Monday.

Still Some Saturday Supercade!

Reaching the end of this weekend's Saturday Supercade posts but we still have one more to go. Which one is cooler, the guy dressed as Kevin from Captain N or the couple dressed as Piranha Plants from Super Mario Bros.?

Still Saturday Supercade!

Okay, maybe we do have something that beats that last cosplay post. The cuteness level alone elevates this to a higher level...though they do look a little frightened don't they? Perhaps they are just sneaking up on an unaware Goomba, ready to crack its skull with a well tossed pumpkin? Good job, kids, good job!

Saturday Supercade!

I'm not sure you can get better than this Air Man cosplay from Mega Man 2 but today we shall at least try. Really though, this costume is just a brilliant piece of work, we here at the Victory Pellet Vault salute you!

Friday Flyers.

Click the pics above to make 1988 sized!

I believe that we live in the future, right? So how come I can't turn on the television and find a channel that is showing the latest Cyberball match? Why hasn't someone come up with the Robotic Football League and started this ball to rolling? Perhaps I think about these things a little too much?

It Must Be Thursday...Vacation Style.

Well, dear readers. I'm afraid that I had to finally ditch my Pac-Man costume last night...the smell of it alone was able to fully stop a Grue from 30 feet away. So today I decided to pull out another disguise, this one will at least let me get some air even though I smell suspiciously like a public pool. Strange.

Now How Am I Getting Home?

Vacation is almost up and now I've been spotted in the middle of a mad dash for BBQ, I mean I know Penguin Ed's has some of the best barbecue around but there is no call for everyone to take to the streets as soon as they open the doors! Everyone remain calm, there is enough ribs for everyone, I promise.

Still On Vacation...Still Pac-Man Style!

Whew. That was a close one. The fuzz almost had me as I was turning the corner but luckily I always keep an extra Pac-Man costume stashed in the bushes for just such occasions. See, the police are looking for a fuzzy Pac-Man not a sleek posterboard Pac-Man. Well, that's either police sirens or the ghosts are closing in on me...see you all tomorrow!

On Vaction...Pac-Man Style!

That's right, dear readers! I've left the Victory Pellet Vault location and am as I type this wandering through your backyards and sitting on your porches while you are not at home. I'm pretty easy to find though...I mean I am wearing this giant life-size Pac-Man costume. If you happen to see me in your backyard tonight do me a favor and hand me a cup of tea before you call the cops...this suit is hot, whew!
