Box Art Wednesday.

Click the pics to Embiggen Intellivision style!

Doing a little research shows the Pole Position port to the Intellivision was originally going to be done by Atari programmers but little work was completed on it and eventually INTV Corp released their own programmed version.

The Congo Bongo port for the Intellivision was the only home title that included all 4 levels from the arcade version, the 2600 was limited by its hardware and possessed only the first and fourth levels of the arcade title.

Boxing was released in 1981 and allowed players to choose from six different boxers, each with their own strengths and weaknesses with the sixth's skills being chosen by the system itself. The player or players were then put in the ring for 15 rounds until a Knockout was delivered or in the case both boxers are still standing it would go to the judges and points would decided the victor. The title sounds a little ahead of its time to me, you can see for yourself if you have an X-Box Live account because it is now available in the Game Room for purchase.

By the way, nothing to do with video games but all to do with being awesome, the Evil Dead debuted on BluRay yesterday. I picked up a copy at my local store this afternoon and plan to spend the early hours of the morning trapped with Ash in that cabin in the woods again.

Intellivision had some great covers.

And Evil Dead is one of the greatest horror flicks I saw in a theater.
I've always been peeved about the second one (seen only on vhs), where they basically reshot the first one for the first twenty minutes then made the whole thing a slapstick comedy with a horror theme.
When I say peeved, I mean fitfully angered beyond belief, of course.

But I love Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi and I can see how their comedic nature rises their material above other such fare.

But still, Evil Dead 2 was a heartbreaker.

Long live Evil Dead.

(Though Evil Dead The Musical was quite earnestly funny - and splashy gory, if you sit on the first row, like I did)

I love all the films in the Evil Dead franchise. They are just great movies to slob out to after a long shift.

Talking of cheesy movies. I just bought Flash Gordon and Goonies on blu-ray.

Awesome

I too love all the evil dead films...I saw them for the first time in a weird order though..I saw Army of Darkness first...I loved it so much I saw it three times opening weekend...then I Evil Dead two becasue a friend told me I didn't "need" to see the first film...It wasn't until years later that I saw Evil Dead...and I have to say I was shocked...it's an awesome horror movie, But I was totally unprepared for the first time I saw it..I was disturbed..

I LOVE the 80's flash gordon...I must have listened to that soundtrack a million times..

Flash Gordon is a wonderful movie, friends. I just wish those of us across the pond could get what has to be an epic commentary from Brian Blessed. Our DVD and BluRay offerings are sadly lacking.

I still haven't had the chance to listen to the new commentary on the Evil Dead BluRay but I'll be sure to make comment about once I have the time.

Atari, I forgot to mention how much I love the Evil Dead: The Musical. I am not in an area though that can support the show...maybe someday they'll put it on dvd?
